Necromancy
Spell lists are generally identical within a hive.
Hatch from eggs laid within living beings, consuming the being from the inside out. Victims of impregnation suffer light sensitivity and burning fevers seeking cool dark places before collapsing into a comatose like state. Victims in a coma are paralayzed and can no longer control their own bodies but are still aware of everything happening around (and in) them. The coma triggers the final hatching state and is the point of no return.
Mindless ravenous beasts at larval stage consuming everything until those that survive have enough energy to form a cocoon.
As the cocoon hardens so does the connection to the hive mind. Those born from sentient beings also have their minds awakened and access to genetic memory. Sorcerous ability begins to manifest during the pupal stage (school only - Cantrips - Low level) Pupal stage summoners radiate mental anguish around them due to the excruciating transformative process. Sleeping creatures are the most susceptible.
Eventually a fully mature adult breaks free from its tortorous cage. Those born from sentient beings accepted by the hive and finally seek it out. Those not born of sentient victims are mindless insane monsters that only know pain and suffering and inflict it on everything around them as they seek out the hive (in an instinctual attempt to destroy it) Queens generally avoid impregnating beasts for this reason. Though an insane summoner is dangerous it is not a significant threat to hives though a birthing queens' location revealed is. Particularly vindictive exiled princesses have been known to do so to weaken the older hive.
Young males are either born with a purpose or need to bring something worthwhile back to the hive to be formally accepted by the queen. Only then does the summoner have access to the higher powers of the hive (summonings, husk reanimation and husk regeneration). Death of loose cannons\insane summoners, very valuable information, new magics, new areas to expand too etc are all examples of what males can accomplish to be accepted by formal ritual. Those who fail are generally hunted and consumed.
Young females are born to fight each other so the strongest may become the new queen, defeated females are slain and consumed by victors though sometimes escape into exile and form their own hive.
Exoskeletons harden with age and the adult malts its husk as it advances age categories\HD.
Adults either reanimate shed husks for use as drones\cannon fodder or protect them since a slain summoner can be ressurected in an old husk that hasn't been reanimated.
Older males are particularly resistant to magic and eventually weapons too, especially magic corresponding to its hive.
Interhive politics are deadly games of intrigue between queens played through victorious princess pawns. Hives compete over resources, mundane and magical along with expansion rights, tthough all-out war between hives is rare. Hive cooperation is important to greater summonings. Summoner hives are living, breathing, reproducing conduits into the physical world.
