OK I'm just going to use this here as a clipboard for ideas and constantly edit it as i decide things instead of ending up with hundred of txt documents on my desktop and scraps of writing all over my desk like usual. Feel free to ask questions, leave comments or make suggestions as you see fit.

I'm not going to claim this as wholly original idea, the inspiration came from the history of the Tremere clan in Vampire: The Masquerade and though they share a common origin with these particular 'vampires' that is where the similarities end. Also I have taken quite a lot from varying religions and mythologies from all over the world for this and hoping to end up with something while not tuly original should give me a very different or at least rarely seen twist on the vampire mythos. Once i have explored the idea to my satisfaction it will be the basis of a short story i plan on writing in the not quite so distant future (I hope)
so without any further a-do i present my (admittedly rather vague and unorganised atm) ideas for the new vampire.
(Sorry i couldn't think of a cool sounding title off the top of my head in Latin :\)

It's only been here 12months before i continued but anyways >_>
I've been thinking of it a lot lately
So what is it about vampires that are special, and what do these have in common with their bloodsucking kin?
Well the most common are as such: Blood Drain - often healing the vampire or recharging abilities. Also invariably the source of continued existence after death.
Power over certain animals (most noteably Rats, Bats and Wolves) controlling them, calling them, even turning into them.
Dominate - Usually with a glance, a vampire can crush another's will, sometimes this includes other forms of mental influence and the abilities to read minds aswell. Also things like putting mortals to sleep or enterring and controlling dreams all sorts of goodies to get the virgin with the crucifix around her neck to discard it and flee into the dark handosme strangers embrace......
Alternate Form - Some vampires can alter themselves to look like any mortal, sometimes a specific mortal. This might require the mortal in question to be dead... likely feed upon or it may require the mortal in question to have a gateway of evil or somesuch for the vapire to enter it's its mind through.
Create Spawn - Simple, vampires drains someone, someone rises a vampire. Sometimes it requires a feed of the vampires blood aswell. Some mythos have vampires also creating servants 'ghouls' of some kind that can operate in sunlight and protect them otherwise.
Damage Reduction (Soak) Vampires often have a resistance to damage sometimes combined with a regenerative ability from all but certain types of attacks, Fire, sunlight, holywater, runningwater, bladed weapons, silver weapons oft times deal full damage, or do damage while usually other things simply dont hurt them, or cant deal enough damage to get through there regeneration, which should be noted is sometimes tied to a 'bloodpool' or how long its been since feeding.
Fast Healing (Regeneration) A vampires undead body automatically heals or regenerates, sometimes right in front of your eyes. This can be tied to how often its been since they feed, or apart of being undead. Certain things are more difficult for a vampire to heal and either wont heal automatically (healing at a rate of a normal mortal) or heals much much slower, or requires blood to heal.
Gaseous Form - SOmetimes vampires can take on a gaseous form or turn into a cloud of dust or the like, sometimes it occurs automatically and is used to escape to safety or it can be a method of transportation.
A vampire can climb sheer surfaces and even smooth surface as easily as a spider.
Vampires are usually physically and mentally superior to mortal aswell. And are especially adept at the intrigue type of skills, as a matter of survival. Sometimes to superhuman levels, particularly when it comes to the physical.
Sometimes vampires can fly, or levitate And Usually can travel faster then a mortal often faster then the eye can travel(this is usually true instead of teleportation, but that sometimes exists aswell.)
Repelling a Vampire- vampires often have an intolerance of strong garlic odors, or certain, often holy symbols (such as a crucifix) Mirrors often repel vampires too sometimes this things can protect the wearer\wielder from mental influence aswell, or increase resistance as usually its not utmost immunity. Salt is another vamp repellant in some mythos
Sometimes Vampires are unable to cross running water, although they can be carried over it while resting in their coffins or aboard a ship. And sometimes holy water burns like acid burns us.
IN some myths vampires are unable to enter a dwelling or other premesis with an invitation to do so, by someone with authority to do so (though being tricked into inviting in is all good.)
Usually if this is the case they may freely enter public places, since these are by definition open to all.
Slaying a Vampire There is no hard and fast way to kill a vampire sometimes they are just superhuman toughness and overcoming that kills them. Sometimes any of the weaknesses or a combination thereof can kill them, sometimes they can't be killed permanently or there are only a small number of ways to do so. Sunlight often kills, and sometimes is the only thing that perma-kills though sometimes they rise again after the sun sets.
Sometimes its immersion in running water.
Sometimes its a stake through the heart (usally wood or sometimes silver) though sometimes this only paralyses or only 'kills' while it remains in the body.
Sometimes it a bunch of religious mumbo-jumbo or symbols locking them away.
And that'sabout all i can think of at the moment..... next time ill compare it too powers of my vamps.

The new redbloodcell devourers! ;D
Psychic Drain - As undead creatures these do not create the neccassary psychic energy required to control there bodies, Necromantic energies can raise and control corpses, but for something to truly be undead it needs some way of replenishing the psychic energy, they accomplish this by feeding on the psychic energy of living creatures, and all the abilities of the creatures are powered by the pool of energy drawn from others. Without feeding. While Living creatures need there psychic energy they also need to eat, drink and breathe to keep there mortal bodies functioning, these creatures use psychic energy to keep and control everything and there feeding on psychic energy becomes the only thing important to there continued existence.
STATS FOR DND:
Psychic Drain (Su) Living creatures hit by any natural weapon the creature might possess, or otherwise by a successful touch attack, drains 1d4 power points per manifester level. The creature gains half that amount (rounded down, minimum 1) in Temporary power points, the creature can instead gain temporary hit points equal to the amount drained instead.
Against a psionic being that has no power points or a nonpsionic foe, your attack instead deals 1d4 points of Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma damage (your choice). Likewise healing hp or restoring PP.
The Creature can use it's psychic drain once per round per interative attack, but only with natural weapons and only if it can legally make such attacks.
Psionic Dominate - These creatures can take over the minds of living creatures this works much the same as a gaze attack in DnD, they also have permanent telepathy (100' range) and can read surface thoughts as the power.
Alternate Form - These creatures can adjust there appearance at will like the Alter self spell to change into any humanoid.
